  2. Decreased activity of Na-K-2Cl channels
  3. Increased activity of Na-Cl cotransporter in the distal tubule
  4. Decreased urine flow rate
  1. Severe hypokalemia increases the activity of hydrogen-potassium ATPase.
  2. Paracellular potassium reabsorption at the proximal tubule is against the electrochemical gradient.
  3. Aldosterone decreases the activity of luminal potassium channels.
  4. Of total body potassium, 98% is in the ECF.
  5. Loop diuretics cause hyperkalemia by increasing the urine flow rate.
